The round brilliant cut is the world's most popular gemstone cut — optimised over a century for maximum light return, and at 6.7ct DEW, every facet performs at full scale.
The round brilliant cut was mathematically optimised in 1919 by Marcel Tolkowsky, who calculated the exact proportions needed to maximise internal light reflection in a diamond. With 57 or 58 precisely angled facets, the round brilliant is the most scientifically engineered cut in fine jewelry. It returns more light to the eye than any other shape, producing the bright "white" return and coloured fire that defines the classic diamond look. For moissanite — which has even higher refractive index than diamond — the round brilliant is particularly effective, squeezing maximum performance from the stone's optical properties.
