What is an Asscher cut?

The Asscher cut is a square step-cut faceting style developed in 1902 by the Royal Asscher Diamond Company. It features a high crown, small table, and deeply cropped corners creating an almost octagonal outline. The step-cut facets produce a distinctive “hall of mirrors” optical effect — long, rectangular flashes of light rather than the brilliant sparkle of round cuts. It has experienced a major revival as a vintage and Art Deco-inspired choice for engagement and statement rings.
